Gilbert Brule inks two year deal
NHLHS Edmonton Oilers Correspondent Trent Kondo presents his thoughts on the Gilbert Brule deal.
The Edmonton Oilers have signed Gilbert Brule to a two year deal. This is a significant signing as Brule is a versatile player whom brings a physical presence, solid fore-checking and the ability to score on occasion. Offense was a big part of Brule’s game while playing junior for the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League with his most notable year being in 2004/05 amassing 39 goals and 87 points plus 167 PIMS in 70 games.

Canucks re-sign Mason Raymond
NHLHS Vancouver Canucks Correspondents Will & Valerie Wittstruck take a look at Mason Raymond’s new contract.
The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed Mason Raymond to a 2-year deal that will pay the speedy winger 2.5 million this season and 2.6 million in 2011-12. The deal happened right before both sides were going to present their case in Raymond’s arbitration hearing. Had the hearing gone on as planned, many believe that Raymond would’ve been awarded 3-3.5 million per year and that would’ve made it difficult for the Canucks to re-sign him considering their current cap situation.

Quinn out. Renney in.
NHLHS Edmonton Oilers Correspondent Trent Kondo reports on the decision in Edmonton which will see Tom Renney take over as full time head coach for the team.
Pat Quinn has stepped down as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers today and is now replaced by Tom Renney, Quinn will stay with the club as a senior advisor to hockey. This move comes as a bit surprising to Oiler fans as most figured Quinn would stick around and help gel these young sparkplug players into a solid nucleus for years to come. Quinn may figure that it is much too large of a task to deal with and the frustration he dealt with last season with the Oilers may have proved to be to much.
