Rangers Acquire White from Atlanta for Brashear, Rissmiller
Jason Arbeitman takes a short look at the New York Rangers’ acquisition of Todd White.

The New York Rangers have announced they have acquired center Todd White, 35 from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for LW Donald Brashear and LW Patrick Rissmiller.
White has 1 year remaining on his deal for 2.375 million and Brashear had 1 year remaining at 1.4 million, but due to his +35 contract he would’ve counted towards the Rangers cap regardless of where he played. White is coming off an injury plagued season where he only put up 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points in 65 games.
At first glance this is a great trade for the Rangers as it freed up Brashear’s hit, so if the Rangers decide to waive White and bury him in the minors the Rangers will free up 2.375 mil in cap space. However, I believe this is a prelude to a bigger trade in the near future as well as the re-signing of RFA defenseman Marc Staal as well as the signing of another veteran defenseman.
More as it happens!

New York Rangers: Offseason 2010
NHLHS New York Rangers Correspondent Jason Arbeitman discusses the New York Rangers off-season to date.
After falling to the Philadelphia Flyers in a shootout on the final day of the regular season the Rangers missed the playoffs by a single point for the first time since the 2003-04 season. As expected with the Rangers cap woes it has been a relatively quiet offseason for the Blueshirts.

Atlantic Division Draft Review
NHLHS Corrospondent Mike Murangi, who covered the draft for NHLHS, breaks down the Atlantic Division in his draft review.
Atlantic Division Draft Review:
Coming to Los Angeles, two Atlantic Division teams did not have first round picks. The New Jersey Devils sent their pick to the Atlanta Thrashers in the Ilya Kovlchuk deal, and the Flyers traded their pick to the Anaheim Ducks in the Chris Pronger deal.
One trade worked; one did not.
In this article, I will review the first-round pick or top pick for each of all five Atlantic Division teams, and late-round picks that may be gems. I will release each of the other five divisions over the next few days. I would love to hear feedback about what you think, or if you have a question about your favorite team please email me at MMurangi@nhlhotstove.com .

Unveiling the Welcome Mats
The New York Rangers are already attempting to fix the big fail that was their 2009-10 season. Although it isn’t official yet, the Rangers took a small step towards better days ahead.
Mats Zuccarello-Aasen the Norwegian counterpart to Martin St. Louis, or so the Rangers are hoping, is going to officially sign with the organization sometime shortly after the World Championships are completed. This comes to no surprise that Zuccarello-Aasen chose to make his home in big city New York as his game is tailored for the bright lights of Broadway.

Rangers Shot Down
NHLHS writer Brandon Augienello gives his final recap on the New York Rangers final game of the 2009-10 regular season.
The surprising last minute run by the Rangers forced the most critical regular season finales in recent memory.
The Philadelphia Flyers, trying to stave off these pesky Blueshirts, locked in a points tie, played a winner takes all Game 82, to see who has the right to compete for Lord Stanley’s silver chalice.
It’s too bad only one team showed up.

This Is It
NHLHS writer Brandon Augienello calls it like he sees it for the New York Rangers heading into tonight’s contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs, on the heels of last night’s big loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
The last of a six game road trip saw the Rangers worst effort, to a man. With the exception of the fourth liners, this team simply looked like they were out of gas, as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Rangers, by the final of 5-2.
For Buffalo, this victory clinched the Northeast Division title and still kept them in the hunt to grab the second seed in the Eastern conference. But this isn’t about Buffalo, who is sitting pretty, largely on the shoulders of MVP-candidate Ryan Miller. No, this is about the New York Rangers, who have a similarly all-world goaltender, who just so happened to let them down last night.

Dangerously Daring to Dream
NHLHS writer Brandon Augienello recaps the New York Rangers latest home victory over the New York Islanders.
Madison Square Garden network made history, as last night’s telecast of the Rangers-Islanders game went 3-D. It was indeed the first time a National Hockey League game had done so. Semantics aside, the Rangers didn’t disappoint, whether your viewing pleasure was enhanced or otherwise, as they dominated a dormant Isles bunch.
Clearly in an unenviable position heading into last night’s showdown with their interstate rivals, the Rangers took the game away, early and often. Yes the Rangers won 5-0, but if it wasn’t for Dwayne Roloson, this could have been more embarrassing than it turned out to be.

Calder Profiles: Michael Del Zotto
NHL Hot Stove presents it’s “Calder Profiles” series which will profile the top candidates for the 2009-2010 Calder Award.
The story of Michael Del Zotto began in a little town in Ontario called Stouffville, on June 24th, 1990. How little is it you ask, well, let’s put it this way, he now plays in a home arena that can fill his entire town a little more than twice over.
Stouffville, Ontario has a population of roughly 9,000 natives. Many assuredly play hockey, but few play, if any at all, as well as the 19-year-old rookie blueliner for the New York Rangers.
In junior hockey, he was a highly touted anchor playing for the Oshawa Generals. In his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League, Del Zotto tallied 57 points in only 64 games. Not a bad way to say hello to such an elite junior hockey league.

Ranger Blues at Home Continues
NHLHS writer Brandon Augienello gives his post game thoughts on the New York Rangers recent downfall.
Down 3-2 early in the third period, the New York Rangers had a glorious opportunity to tie the game, when they were on a 1:17 two-man advantage. But being that this is, infact the Rangers we are talking about here, the end result was as typical as it was painful.
Not only did the Rangers fail to score, they didn’t even produce a single quality scoring chance. And while they did briefly tie the visitng St. Louis Blues, with a blueline softie from Wade Redden (this isn’t a typo), the Rangers did inevitably fall victim at home, yet again, by the score of 4-3.

Nothing To See Here
Last night’s game should have came with a personal apology from the home team.
The New York Rangers, in a fight for their playoff lives, came out and absolutely laid an egg in front of yet another sellout crowd, as the visiting Montreal Canadiens skated out of Madison Square Garden with a 3-1 victory. The story of this game was pretty simple, the Habs wanted it more than the Blueshirts, simple as that. This is nothing new, the Rangers have been disappointing the home crowd all season long. With this latest sorry excuse of a loss, the Rangers have now lost 21 out of 36 games played at the so-called World’s Most Famous Arena.

The Value of: Peter Mueller
NHL Hot Stove presents it’s “The Value Of” series which will look at some of the names discussed around the NHL who likely will be moved at the March 3rd trade deadline.
In the beginning of the 2008-2009 season nobody in Arizona would think about trading away their top young player: Peter Mueller. The former eighth overall selection potted 54 points in his rookie season, only two years after his draft year.

The Value of: Ales Kotalik
NHL Hot Stove presents it’s “The Value Of” series which will look at some of the names discussed around the NHL who likely will be moved at the March 3rd trade deadline.
After enduring four long games on the bench after a few previous stints watching from the press box, Ranger forward Ales Kotalik would like a trade. Jim Schmiedeberg of Blueshirt Banter describes the full story as Kotalik seems destined for a new destination.
