The age old battle of CHL vs. NCAA
Alexander Monaghan gives his take on the difference between the Canadian Juniors and College Hockey and how they are evaluated by NHL clubs and the players themselves.

NCAA hockey has had better days. This past week, a few of their top young players fled for the CHL which sadly is a trend that often hurts programs across the nation. Couple that with losing one of their top players, Jerry D’Amigo of RPI, to a professional contract and the depth gets worse.

Habs Summer Recap v2.0
NHLHS Montreal Canadiens Correspondent Christopher Nardi discusses the summer of the Montreal Canadiens.
If you’re JUST joining in on the fun of reading a summer recap for the Habs, I strongly suggest you go ahead and read part 1 right here: http://nhlhotstove.com/canadiens-summer-recap-part-1/
Now if you’re ready for the part of the summer recap where I get all pissy and angry against one of the players I dislike the most around the league, then you’re certainly going to want to read on.

Canadiens Summer Recap Part 1
NHLHS Montreal Canadiens Correspondent Christopher Nardi presents his Habs Summer Recap. A summary of the major news out of Montreal so far this off-seasons.
From boom to bust, the Habs off-season started with a bang and has since calmed.
So we’re in mid-July and Ilya Kovalchuk FINALLY sighed with someone, more “the salary cap has once again been rendered useless” talks have sprung up (see: Kovalchuk’s contract), LeBron James ended his endless mind games and told the world where he was signing (the world that has ESPN, that is), and now you MUST be wondering: “but what has happened to the Habs? Is the city of Montreal still standing? Where can I get my poutines from now? Well worry not my friend, because Montreal is still standing, and although the changes brought to the team this summer are not as drastic or unexpected as last summer’s (although there have been quite some surprises), the Habs were not quiet this summer.

What To Do Now
This article had originally been intended to explain my point of view on the Tomas Plekanec resigning for 30 million dollars over six years, but after a few extensive hockey discussions, I decided to revamp it, erase the whole article and start from scratch.
This article will present what I think the Habs need to do to boost their team and make them cup contenders next year, as opposed to a bubble/Cinderella team.
On Plekanec:

NHLHS Mock Draft is our latest feature where we collectively predict the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The draft is a crapshoot and we will be wrong… …but we thought it would be fun to try.

And So The Goaltender Saga Continues
NHLHS Montreal Candiens Correspondent Christopher Nardi gives his thoughts on the Canadiens decision to trade Jaroslav Halak, and the return they received.
Just as Montrealers thought that they had found their new solid rock in nets, the administration once again slapped Habs fans across the face, this time by trading new fan favourite Jaroslav Halak to the St-Louis Blues in exchange for two prospects, Ian Schultz and first round draft pick in 2007 Lars Eller.

St. Louis Blues Land Jaroslav Halak in Surprise Trade
It’s not even the draft yet, and we have the first big trade of the season. To no one’s surprise, Montreal moved a goaltender. To everyone’s surprise, it was their current goaltender/savior, Jaroslav Halak. To even more people than everyone (and I think that today, yes, that’s possible) the trade partner was the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues were rumored to be working with Chris Mason on a contract extension as a safety net just in case no solid goaltending deals arose at July 1st.

It Was A Good Run
NHLHS Montreal Canadiens correspondent Christopher Nardi gives his views on the run the Montreal Canadiens provided through the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
May 24, 2010 marked the end of a dream for many a Montreal fan. What had seemed destined to happen, the Habs winning the cup that is, crumbled like Jericho after only having been circled five times. The Flyers out-hit, out-played and out-passioned Les Glorieux, and it showed in almost every game but game three. Mike Richards said about game three that the Habs delivered “a good, old fashioned ass kicking”, but the Flyers delivered the same thing pretty much every other game of the series.

The Man Behind the Mask: Jaroslav Halak
The NHLHS Man Behind The Mask series is a profile on some of the best goalies in the league to ever wear the “mask”. We hope you enjoy the latest installment of the NHLHS MBTM series.
If the regular season or the 2010 Winter Olympic games were not enough proof for you, then I truly hope you have been tuning in to these 2010 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.
You are witnessing the evolution of a prime time netminder.
After a rough opening to each series heading into these Eastern Conference Finals for the Montreal Canadiens, one man has been there to bail his club out on a constant basis.

Only the Lord Saves More Than Leighton
Yes, you’re right, I did take that title from Joe Beninati, the Versus commentator, but it’s just so… real!
Oh, and on a related note, I have finally figured out how to inevitably make the Habs win. It’s actually tested and proven, works like a charm, and doesn’t require the Habs to dish out some massive S&H costs to acquire. The Habs need to shoot less. Surprised? Let me explain.
In every single one of the Montreal Canadiens’ wins against both Washington and Pittsburgh, the team was out shot by exactly 17 shots on average. Although the Habs were dominated on the shot count, they were obliged to play defense first, blocking shots by the dozen, while Jaroslav Halak kept the puck out of the net.

Eight(h) is Enough
Congratulations to the second biggest underdog to enter the 2010 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs for, what has been thus far, the most amazing Cinderella run since 1993.
For the Montreal Canadiens, the number eight seed was simply enough. Enough to ignite a spark under a team compiled of averaged sized players surrounded in turmoil from every angle except financially.
And to think, luck was on their side in order to squeak into the playoff picture.
