Stars Sale Update: Is no news good news?
My how the world changes in an instant. We haven't heard anything but incorrect rumors and speculation regarding the sale of the Stars and how it has been way below radar, etc, etc, etc (of course, compared to the Texas Rangers sale, most things could be considered under the radar).

No to Niemi, But Totally Turco
NHLHS Chicago Blackhawks Correspondent Ryan Hackett discusses the Hawks walking away from Antti Niemi and choosing Marty Turco.
Now Playing: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Mojo
So the Chicago Blackhawks have decided to let Antti Niemi and agent Bill Zito try their luck on the open market by saying “NO!” to his arbitration award of $2.75MM, thus sending seismic shockwaves not only through the hearts of the Blackhawks’ faithful but also the entire NHL. It’s been a trying off-season to say the least for fans of the Indian Head sweater, as the team has been forced to say goodbye to nearly half of the roster from last season, including such fan favorites as Dustin Byfuglien, Adam Burish, and now the Stanley Cup winning goaltender, Antti “The Finnish Fortress” Niemi.

NHLHS Mock Draft is our latest feature where we collectively predict the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The draft is a crapshoot and we will be wrong… …but we thought it would be fun to try.

Blackhawks One Goal: Just Win.
NHLHS Blackhawks Correspondent Ryan Hackett discusses the latest surrounding the ‘Hawks.
Now Playing: Mother Love Bone – Apple
On the heels of ripping off four straight victories, the Chicago Blackhawks have resumed their winning ways before the doomsayers could say “dog-leg right”. While being outscored 16-7 over a three-game slide is hardly ideal at any time in the year, it seems to have awakened the squad on both ends of the ice, and some of the heroes have been of the more “unlikely” variety.

Bonino Shines In Ducks’ Win Over Stars
On a night devoted to honoring future Hall of Famer, Teemu Selanne for his latest achievement, rookie centerman, Nick Bonino stole a piece of the spotlight.
Following a touching, pre-game ceremony given to honor the Finnish Flash becoming only the 18th player to score 600 goals in his career, recently signed, Bonino notched his first goal in an Anaheim Ducks’ uniform and his first goal as a National Hockey League player. The goal came at 8:11 of the second period with a little help from line-mates Selanne and Corey Perry. It was the opening goal of the night for the Ducks and helped to carry the team to a 3 -1 win over the Dallas Stars.

Ushering in a New Generation: Dallas Stars
In our newest feature, Ushering in a New Generation, our talented writer Katlyn Gambill takes a deeper look into team success based on a player’s age. Today, she looks at the Dallas Stars, who are the eleventh oldest team in the league.
The Dallas Stars old age certainly hindered their success this year. After losing coach Dave Tippett over the off-season, the Stars will not make the playoffs this year. Their average age of 27.86 years, though not too old, ranks eleventh in the NHL.

The Man Behind the Mask: Johan Hedberg
The NHLHS Man Behind The Mask series is a profile on some of the best goalies in the league to ever wear the “mask”. We hope you enjoy the latest installment of the NHLHS MBTM series.
The 1994 entry draft was a solid one for goaltenders. Jose Theodore was chosen in the 2nd round by Montreal. In the 5th round, the Dallas Stars chose Marty Turco, and four goaltenders were chosen in the 9th round, three of those eventual starters: Tim Thomas by the Nordiques, Evgeny Nabokov by the Sharks, and Tomas Vokoun by the Habs.
None of them are having a season like Johan Hedberg.

Finally the Stars Look to Youth
Mike Modano leads all USA born hockey players in points and goals but now mans the fourth line in Dallas. After he and Marty Turco blamed the team’s woes on agitator Sean Avery, which amongst other things led to his exodus from Dallas, the Stars have not played any better than their mediocre 10th seed standing.

The Value Of: Marty Turco
NHL Hot Stove presents it’s “The Value Of” series which will look at some of the names discussed around the NHL who likely will be moved at the March 3rd trade deadline.
What does the future hold for Marty Turco and the Dallas Stars? The team continues to fall out of playoff contention, Do they begin rebuilding or do they resign the veteran and try again? At 34-years-old, one would speculate his reign in Dallas would be coming to an end.

The One Who Never Won It All
Arguably the best Finnish player never to win a Cup, Teppo Numminen will receive recognition for his remarkable career when the Phoenix Coyotes induct him into the “Ring of Honor” on January 30, 2010. Numminen, drafted in 1986, played fifteen seasons for the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes franchise, and continued to play an additional five years for Dallas and Buffalo.
At the time of his retirement on August 4, 2009, the stay-at-home defenseman was the last player from the 1986 draft still playing in the NHL. He was a three-time all-star, a two-time silver medalist at the Olympics (along with one bronze medal), and as of January 2010, he holds the record for most NHL games (1372 games) played without winning a Cup. The longevity of his career was largely due to his vision, his positioning, and his passing.
He never won the Norris Trophy —for the league’s best defenseman — though, Jeremy Roenick once said Numminen should be up for the award every year, but the media and market of Phoenix was not conducive to winning an award. Numminen was a great captain for the Coyotes, but not many outside of Winnipeg and Phoenix gave him the recognition he deserved. His contributions to the Coyotes were outstanding; the Coyotes have not made the playoffs since trading Numminen to the Dallas Stars in July of 2003. He was never a flashy or physical player, but he gave hope to defenseman that positioning can makeup for size and strength.
