Good recall Trent,
What do you see for us in the upcoming season? Any predictions from you?
Thanks very much JB I appreciate that!
It’s tough to make predictions at this point because there is a lot to happen in the off season for the Oilers. At this point it’s obvious the forward lines will be youthful but for whom actually stays and plays is up in the air (see Rob Schremp for example).
As for bringing in free agents there was much talk about Jagr but that is kayboshed as he resigned for another year with Omsk. There is a plethora of free agents available this year coming up but I honestly don’t see any big signings as much as the Oiler brass would love to bring in a “star” to help this young club. The only problem is that stars generally don’t want to come here (Dany Heatley).
As it stands right now I do not see Edmonton as a playoff contender next year, i think the offense should be OK with a healthy lineup and some young studs but the defense is very thin. As we have seen with NYI one rookie star does not get you into the playoffs with the likes of John Tavares.
If anything the Oilers will be very comparable to NYI of this year, exciting, youthful but questionable defense and leadership.
