It’s de rigueur this season, and the last for that matter, to dump on Mike Green. I don’t think many of those who bad-mouth Mike’s defensive prowess have seen him play; not recently, anyway. Let me just say this: you don’t end the season with a +39,(and your defensive partner with a league-leading +50) if you don’t play defense.
belanger and corvo added minimal help when they joined the team, so in fear of that happening again and getting nylandered with a 4 million dollar salary the caps are building from their own system
ovechkin-backstrom-knuble
semin- laich- fehr
resign fleishmann- steckel- FA
chimera- gordon – bradley
so there offense is bad depth wise, they should of had guys like ovi and semin try and recruit the free wheeling russian zherdev he could play top 3 lines any given night. well there is still frolov out there personally id go for the RW afinogenov on the 3rd line. still only 30, a sparkplug of speed and offense. played all 82 61 points is very good for a line with antropov and bergfors. 1 year 1.5 million to play on a high offense team unlike atlanta. i disagree on defense
Green- Schultz (nhl +/- leader hes ur shutdown guy)
Alzner- Carlson
poti- (sign someone like sutton)
rotate sloan and erskine in when guys are slacking.
Varly 60 games
Neuvy 20-22 games
oh as for carlson… the nhl schedule shouldnt be a problem. hes got his D partner from Hershey and quite frankly traveling in the nhl is much more better than the ahl bus. he wants to be in the nhl as for development it can happen. i have 2 examples. look at tyler myers. buffalo was on the fence rather to keep him in the nhl after the first 12 games then he turned out to be calder winning top point producing defenseman on the team. another sabres, tyler ennis they give him top line minutes in the playoffs with minimal experience and hes the reason the series didnt end in 4. if u give those 20 year olds confidence it rarely backfires.
Amen
I agree 100% What I see is they are looking at the offensive power that they have and not the defensive power that they need. meaning they will be looking for 6 goals a game to win due to the defence giving up 3 or more goals. Years ago the caps were known for their defence and now its changing sides. They now need a good balance of the two.
How quickly we forget… D was not the Caps problem in the playoffs. The D and goaltending was pretty solid against the Habs. The problem was the offense went stagnant and they faced a hot goalie. Big moves do not need to be made. The Caps have all the pieces, and a very young team that keeps getting better with experience. This will be the 3rd year this core group of players will be playing together, and following a President’s Cup winning season. The chemistry is growing with players groomed from within. NO BIGS MOVES ARE REQUIRED!
John Carlson bypassed the AHL? How do you figure? Maybe I’m imagining things, but I’m pretty sure that he played on both this year’s and last year’s Calder Cup Bears teams.
He has 77 games of AHL experience and 29 games of NHL experience (including regular season and playoffs). That’s a total of 106 professional games played in approximately 13 or 14 months.
Most defensemen don’t win two professional championships in their entire careers. He has two within his first 18 months of being a professional. That kind of rigorous grind will do wonders for the development. What more does he have to do in Hershey?
If you want credibility on your opinions (some of which I agree with), shouldn’t you at least do a little research on the subjects first? Carlson may be young but he hasn’t exactly “bypassed” the AHL.
